A few days ago, I came across a YouTube video on the Atlanta Street Interviews channel that featured a young man named Darius Thomas. Like many people featured on the channel, Darius was experiencing homelessness and expressing details on how he ended up in such a devastating situation.
Darius shared his struggles like many people on the channel, but his story was unique because of his athletic background as a cornerback. Darius played at the collegiate level for Henderson State University and would eventually go on to play professional arena football in the IFL.
What’s even more upsetting about this young man’s story is that he graduated from Henderson State with a degree in Sports Management, only to find himself surviving on the streets at 30.
What happened to Darius? Where did he go wrong? Could something like this happen to you?
What strikes me when hearing from Darius, despite his work ethic within a collegiate program and the IFL, is the stark reality that it is not enough to be great at football.
